AI for law firms that keeps client confidences inside the firm

Give lawyers a firm-controlled AI workspace with an audit trail. For the ChatGPT and Claude use that happens anyway, SUPERWISE® Sentinel replaces the identifiers it recognizes before a prompt leaves the PC.

What ABA Formal Opinion 512 asks of a firm

  • The opinion applies competence, confidentiality, communication, reasonable fees, candor, and supervision. Lawyers must understand a tool's terms and privacy policy, or consult someone who does.
  • Informed client consent is required before information about a representation enters a self-learning tool, and boilerplate consent is not enough.
  • Every output needs a lawyer's review. Verify every citation before filing.

State rules and opinions control. This page is not legal advice. Read ABA Formal Opinion 512 and the guide for lawyers.

Two controls for client work

A firm workspace for client matters: SUPERWISE Chat

  • Hosted by SUPERWISE in a secure cage at 365 Data Centers, Nashville, Tennessee.
  • The model is gpt-oss-120b. Subject to change as models advance.
  • Conversations are directly accessible only by the customer's administrator, and that access is an audited event. If SUPERWISE support needs access, that is also audited and the customer is notified.
  • Kept for the life of the customer's account by default; admins can set a shorter period.
  • Content is not used to train someone else's model.
  • SUPERWISE notifies the customer of a subpoena unless the law forbids it. SUPERWISE supports legal holds on request.
  • Every conversation is recorded and searchable.
  • Each team or client can have its own workspace with shared project documents.
  • Single sign-on is on Business Plus and Enterprise.
  • SUPERWISE Chat can be deployed air-gapped as a custom installation with customer-chosen models.

For the outside tools lawyers keep using: Sentinel

Sentinel replaces email addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, passport numbers, credit card numbers, IBANs, bank account numbers, IP and MAC addresses, and API keys, cloud credentials, and tokens in known formats. Driver's license, tax ID and EIN, national ID, VIN, date of birth, and medical record numbers are replaced when a label sits next to them, such as "MRN:" or "Driver's license:".

It does not catch names, street addresses, unlabeled numbers, passwords, or keys in no known format.

Each value it catches becomes a placeholder, REDACTED by default. An admin can change the replacement text, or block the request instead.

For each request Sentinel records metadata only: counts, which rule fired, and latency. Prompts and responses are never sent to SUPERWISE.

Client and opposing-party names and street addresses pass through Sentinel, so matter work belongs in the firm workspace. Use [CLIENT] and [OPPOSING_PARTY] placeholders in outside tools, as the guide shows.

SUPERWISE does not decide whether a use preserves privilege or meets your jurisdiction's rules. It gives the firm the control and the record to make that judgment.
